Presentations of Interest at DesignCon 2010
CST has been exhibiting at this event for several years now, demonstrating 3D simulation of the above components so that engineers can benefit from fully virtual design and optimization. For this year's show, we'll be showcasing our latest 2010 release and how it can benefit the DesignCon community. If you are attending, come by booth #307 on the show floor for a demo or take a look at our collaborative papers in the main conference.
Here's a selection of papers we are presenting:
- “Chip-to-Chip Communication Beyond 25 Gbps: Modeling and Realization” Jianmin Zhang, Qinghua Bill Chen, Kelvin Qiu, Cisco. Martin Schauer, Antonio Ciccomancini Scogna, and Gerardo Romo, CST of America Inc. Tuesday, February 2, 2:50 pm – 3:30 pm.
- “Efficient Modeling and Simulation for Package-PCB Co-Design and Co-Optimization” Martin Schauer, CST of America. Hong Ahn, Namhoon Kim, Chris Wyland, Paul Wu, Xilinx. Wednesday, February 3, 2:00 pm – 2:40 pm.
- “Full-Wave Time Domain Modeling of Interconnects” Martin Schauer, CST of America Inc. Alfred Neves, Tom Dagostino, Scott McMorrow, Teraspeed Consulting LLC. Thursday February 4, 9:50 am - 10:30 am.

CST University Publication Award 2009 - Winners Announced
Back in the Summer I wrote about the CST University Publication Award in this Blog. At the time we had just announced the 2010 award on the CST website.
Incase you are not familiar with this award, it is an annual grant to university institutes and researchers for their work in the application of 3D EM field simulation. The winners are awarded with extensions to their CST STUDIO SUITE installations.
Prerequisites for participation are that the papers are authored or co-authored by university researchers, published either in scientific journals or conference proceedings, and the numerical results are entirely or in part obtained through simulation using CST software products.
The following papers have been selected to receive the CST University Publication Award 2009:
- “Theory and simulation of surface plasmon excitation using resonant metal nanoparticle arrays”; Amitabh Ghoshal, Pieter G. Kik; JOURNAL OF APPLIED PHYSICS 103, 29.03.2008, pp 113111-1 - 113111-8
- “Noninvasive Procedure for Measuring the Complex Permittivity of Resins, Catalysts, and Other Liquids Using a Partially Filled Rectangular Waveguide Structure”; M. Jaleel Akhtar, Lambert E. Feher, Manfred Thumm; IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MICROWAVE THEORY AND TECHNIQUES, VOL. 57, NO. 2, FEBRUARY 2009 pp 458-471
- “Role of surface plasmon polaritons on optical transmission through double layer metallic hole arrays”; R. Ortuño, C. García-Meca, F. J. Rodríguez-Fortuño, J. Martí, Alejandro Martínez; PHYSICAL REVIEW B 79 12.02.2009 pp 075425-1 - 075425-10
Short paper award
- “Simplified Approach for 3-D Nonlinear Induction Heating Problems”; A. Canova, F. Dughiero. F. Fasolo, M. Forzan, F. Freschi, L. Giaccone, M. Repetto; IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MAGNETICS VOL. 45, NO. 3, MARCH 2009
The abstracts of these papers and of many more publications using CST software can be found in our references list.
If you are an academic researcher and have penned a paper, in English, that was published in either in scientific journals or conference proceedings between April 1st 2009 and March 31st 2010 , and the numerical results are entirely or in part obtained through simulation using CST software products, then please send me a copy. You never know, maybe you will be among the winners of an upgraded CST STUDIO SUITE licence for one year.

CST version 2010 Webcast
Anyone interested in real state of the art 3D electromagnetic simulation, existing customer or not, will find this 1 hour show essential viewing.

The models used in this presentation will include a large navy frigate with multiple antenna systems, an automotive instrumentation panel, an Airbus jet and a combined high-speed PCB & package system. With these examples, we'll be looking at installed antenna performance, EMC/EMI, lightning strike and signal integrity.
We are really looking forward to showing off the amazing capabilities of this new version, hope you are able to join us.
Online registration is now available.

New Electrically Small Antennas Webcast
According to Besser, this 45 minute presentation is designed to provide an understanding of basic antenna property definitions such as impedance, bandwidth and quality factor with a focus on electrically small antennas. Anyone working within the field of general RF systems, wireless, cellular and microwave systems will benefit by attending. Don't miss out on this opportunity to see the presentation and ask questions in the Q&A session that follows.
The webinar will run on Tuesday, October 20, 2009; 8:00 am PDT, which is 11:00 am EDT and 3 pm UTC.
You can sign up for the webinar using this link.
Previous webcasts in the series can still be viewed "on-demand", so take a look at the Microwave Journal webpage for more details.Ruth
